3M is pleased to publish the new 2022 Global Impact Report, to declare its sustainability goals, to document the progress 3M has made and the actions the company took in 2021 to accelerate its ambitions in environment, social and governance (ESG).

“We use science to strengthen health care, empower consumers, and reshape the future of transportation and manufacturing”.

With these words, the 3M CEO Mike Roman highlights how 3M brings to life its Purpose – unlocking the value of people, science, and ideas to reimagine what is possible and build what is next.

3M is a longtime leader in environmental stewardship among manufacturers, going back more than 45 years to the groundbreaking Pollution Prevention Pays program. It is a value that matters deeply to 3M stakeholders.

3M has long been a player in addressing both challenges and opportunities presented by climate change and energy conservation. This proactive attitude is best defined by the following areas of action:

  • executive-level commitment to these important topics and related principles, policies, commitments, and risk-mitigation planning efforts, including membership in RE100, the global corporate initiative committed to 100% renewable electricity by 2050;
  • collaborations with organizations that are committed to the important work of addressing climate change, including the Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy;
  • industry-leading efforts to measure and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, including a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050;
  • extensive public policy engagement on both climate change and energy conservation;
  • a decade’s-long track record of improving energy efficiency at 3M sites;
  • serving 3M customers through a wide range of innovative products that help them improve energy efficiency and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

In the recently launched Global Impact Report, 3M shows how the company is progressing against the goals. An example: 3M is on target to surpass the 2025 annual renewable energy goal of 50% renewable energy in its operations two years ahead of schedule.

“Whether it is our environmental goals, social justice initiatives, or governance commitments, our success is fueled by our purpose” says Gayle Schueller – 3M Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer.

To increase transparency and relevance for employees, customers, and shareholders, 3M has introduced a new web-based reporting hub to supplement the annual Global Impact Report. Find out more here: Sustainability and ESG | Overview and Commitments | 3M
