The Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy (GASE) actively contributed to a high-level event organised by the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) entitled “Financing Industrial Decarbonization Across Global Supply Chains”, held on 14 January in Abu Dhabi, as part of the IRENA programme during the World Future Energy Summit.

The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and other key stakeholders to explore the role of finance in accelerating decarbonisation across global value chains, with a particular focus on the renewable energy and industrial sectors.

Representing the Alliance, Guido Broggi, Secretariat Coordinator, participated as a panelist and delivered the closing remarks, contributing to the discussion on the structural challenges and opportunities shaping the renewable energy industry today.

The dialogue highlighted the increasing complexity faced by the sector, including fragmented regulatory frameworks across global markets, multi-tier supply chains that are still rapidly evolving, and the additional costs companies must bear in the absence of harmonised standards, particularly in relation to supplier auditing, traceability and compliance.

At the same time, the discussion underscored the critical role of standardisation as a strategic enabler. Through cross-industry cooperation, standardisation can help advance decarbonisation, including Scope 3 emissions, support legislative alignment whilst creating the conditions needed to unlock finance across global supply chains.

The Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy and the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization will continue to work together for advancing progress on these key goals, with the aim of reducing risk, increasing transparency, and scaling sustainable solutions at pace.
